Pakistani Pop singers/bands that have the internet covered
These are the top 5 Pakistani pop acts with the most fans on Facebook/views on Youtube.

1. Atif Aslam reigns supreme in Pakistan. He is ultimately the King of the Pakistani pop industry with well wishers and supporters around the world…or should I say he has Aadeez all over the world. Atif has roughly 51 thousand fans on Facebook and on Youtube his most viewed video has over 4.75 million views.

2. The band Jal was once at the top of its game with countless fans, unfortunately the band’s fan base has dramatically decreased over the years due to the band’s, lets be honest, lame songs….However Jal still has about 42 thousand fans on Facebook and their highest viewed video on Youtube has reached over 950 thousand views(its pertinent to say that the video was put on Youtube over 2 years ago)

Improv-ing up a storm
Aisa Kerogey Tou Kon Ayega are set to make you laugh with mad street smart humour

Aisa Karo Gay Tu Kon Ayega

Remember all the days you spent laughing endlessly at school, because there would always be this bunch of dudes who had a knack for cracking people up with their hilarious take on anything and everything? Sometimes all it would take was a look to set the laughing fits off. Now imagine being able to watch those guys onstage weekend after weekend, doing nothing but make you laugh.

If this sounds to you like a scenario you could get used to, the Aisa Kerogey Tou Kon Ayega (AKTKA) Urdu improv troupe has exactly what you need. Founded by Azfar Ali, who himself had delivered side-splitting commentary on life and weirdness with his cohort Mani on radio for the longest time, AKTKA is a remedy of sorts.

ATIF ASLAM AND SHREYA GHOSHAL IMPACT WASHINGTON!

his past weekend I saw Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal impact DAR Constitution Hall in Impact 2010. The event was put on with aplomb by Sachin Rajgire and Lavika Bhagat Singh.

Atif & Sherya

The event started right on Indian Standard Time (which is to say, one hour late). Our Emcee for the evening was a poetically minded woman – whose name I didn’t catch. Dressed in a bright red top and skirt, she provided a nice touch of earnestness to an evening that was already headed way into deep camp territory with the first act – the strutting of the Miss India DCs across the stage and back. The crowd was really buzzing with excitement as the dancers, dressed in gloriously tacky ensembles of gold lame tops/trousers for the men and gold lame tops/booty shorts for the women, came out for their medley of recent Bollywood hits. As I wrote in my notes – and will transcribe for you here – “This is the way to warm up a crowd!!”

Lights Out! puts chaos and hilarity onstage in Islamabad

Hilarty

The theatrical scene in Islamabad has been heating up lately with many amateur productions being put up for consumption. Thus one walked into the Lahore Grammar School’s (Islamabad) presentation of Lights Out! at the National Art Gallery with a mild sense of anticipation.

What followed was more than a pleasant surprise.

The play, directed by the very talented Osman Khalid Butt, is based on Play on! by Rick Abbot. It revolves around a group of actors, directors and one fairly irritating and flamboyant authoress, trying to put together a performance of a play-within-a-play called Murder Most Foul. Act 1 of Lights Out! is all about a nightmare of a rehearsal for Murder Most Foul that leaves the director of the play exasperated and his rival director rubbing his hands in glee.

Annie and Atif: The prince and princess of pop get together for Bol

Atif Aslam

Annie

Truth be told, the one person we miss the most out of everyone who has gone AWOL in the Pakistani entertainment industry is Annie; “Annie Princess” as loads of people call her. She has to be one of the most charming women around at the moment, as even with a voice that probably only her best friend loves, you can’t really hate Annie. She is so sure of herself at all times, whether her music is, umm, not brilliant, or whether it is unabashedly talking about performing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ as the first song she ever sung in public, as we wonder how Celine would feel about her kitsch hit being butchered at an Abrar concert – Annie just doesn’t care and sort of surges ahead like the force of nature she is.
